πŸ“… May, 2022 πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ Belgium πŸ”΄ Demolished

This coal fired power plant was built in 1951 with two original units. In the following decade 2 more units were added (units 3-4) with one final addition (unit 5) in 1973.

In 2005 unit 4 has been converted to 75MW 100% biomass. The plant then became the largest biomass plant in that area, powering around 160k houses.

The biomass part closed September 2020, followed by decommission. The plant has been for the most part blown-up late 2022 – early 2023.

The turbines

Sadly we’ve been really late for the party. All turbines were already stripped and end section of the hall was wide open.

Exteriors

We all got that place that we’ve known for ages but haven’t visited because it was either too far away or because there was other priorities. For me it was this power plant. And as I was entering the turbine hall I really blamed myself for not getting there sooner.

Until next time.
